Surrogacy Laws in Rhode Island

Rhode Island doesn’t address cases of surrogacy directly, but it seems to allow at least some kinds of surrogacy. The question of surrogacy contracts dealing with LGBT couples and individuals has been looked at by the courts yet.

Explanation: The statue law forbidding humans from being cloned has a clear exception for assisted reproductive methods used for gestational surrogacy. However, it should be mentioned that the Rhode Island legislature put a sunset clause in there, and it stated the statute outlawing cloning would expire in year 2010.
